Experimental techniques

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)

This technique allows the investigation of the 3D flow field with high temporal and spatial resolution. Our system consists of 4 high-speed cameras and a high-frequency laser. The acquisition frequency can be as high as 10kHz.

Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV)

The velocity components can be measured locally using the Doppler effect of an LDV system (a). The LDV is used to characterize the flow field with high spatial resolution in turbulent boundary layers (2b). The dimensions of the measuring volume of our system are 0.09*0.09*1.35 mm3. The LDV is a suitable choice in gas turbine compressors (2c) of limited measurement space.
